Working with Statoil on your project
Statoil engages in projects with entrepreneurs and industrial companies in order to help new and emerging technologies reach the market. We have a particular focus on the development and commercialisation phases of new technology. This includes detailed product development, prototyping, testing and verification, and market planning.
If selected, your project may be supported for product development through:
- Inclusion in one of our R&D programs or establishing a new R&D project
- The LOOP technology development programme
- Providing access to capital through equity or venture investments
- Statoil’s long term relationships to seed funds, business incubators and science parks
- Joint ventures with suppliers and partners
Our contribution to a project can include technical expertise, defining user requirements, project supervision, pilot tests, establishing networks, business/commercial advice, and financial support.
There is no set rule for the size of financial support available. However, the recipient company must show a commitment to the project by providing part of the funding itself. Statoil places particular emphasis on supporting product development in small to medium-sized companies.
Statoil does not commit itself to purchasing the end product/service of a project once available on the market. The supplier must compete in the usual way for deliveries to the group. However, Statoil will contribute where possible in the testing of new products/services on our installations.
Technology company investments
Statoil invests in companies with unique technology and high growth potential in the oil & gas and new/renewable energy sectors.
LOOP
Statoil’s technology development programme LOOP contributes with advice, financing, networking and potential pilot applications in technology development and verification projects.
Parks, incubators and seed funds
Parks, incubators and seed funds support early-phase technology development. Statoil has ownership positions in several of these across Norway.
The process
Once your idea is submitted, it will be given an evaluation by a team consisting of relevant specialists that can include business developers, IP advisors and technical experts. If the evaluation team finds your proposal is of interest, but lacks important information after your first submission form has been received, you will be contacted for more detail so that a proper evaluation can be made.
If the idea is endorsed by the evaluation team, the contact person will be asked to provide further information on the technology and business plan, in order to decide which of our technology development tools are the best suited for the proposal.
If the decision is made not to participate in the development of your idea, a notification will be sent. In general, we do not state the specific reason for this decision.
All submissions will receive feedback. However, due to the volume of incoming ideas, proposals which supply precise and detailed information will be prioritised.
